Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
Estimated period 1940–1950; material brass with painted metal; a rare two-sphere armillary astronomical demonstration set from Italy, in its original wooden case (49 × 28 × 28 cm) with a central pillar and gears, height 28 cm and sphere diameter 26 cm.
Description from the seller
Rare set for didactic astronomical demonstrations. In the original wooden case there is a pair of armillary sphere-shaped instruments, a pedestal with gears and a period photograph that demonstrates the arrangement of the elements in the case. One of the two spheres demonstrates the inclination of the stellar plane and the variation of orbital elements by tilting the central plate. The second sphere contains a plate that is spun at high speed by pulling a small cord. It is equipped at the bottom with a heavy metal ring functioning as a flywheel, which lengthens the rotation times. The central pin (shaft) visualizes the verticality of the rotating axis with the inclination of the sphere and its gyroscopic effect. Other functions will be understood with careful study of these instruments. The spheres are made of painted metal (small flaws) and lacquered brass elements (central sphere, external zodiac ring). On the tripod there is a plaque indicating the patent in the name of "Prof.Garulli". Probable manufacture by an Italian firm such as Paravia or Vallardi. presumably Italy 1940s. very rare set, decorative and all to be discovered. video available. Case dimensions: 49 x 28 x 28 cm - Sphere diameter 26 cm
