Description from the seller
Japanese porcelain Kutani bowl – Meiji period, Ø 37 cm
An impressive and large Japanese porcelain bowl, executed in the refined Kutani style, dating from the Meiji period (1868–1912). With a generous diameter of about 37 cm, this is a striking and decorative piece.
The bowl is exquisitely painted with an expansive landscape scene, in which figures, architecture, and nature harmoniously come together. The subtle color tones – ranging from soft pinks and greys to warm red accents – attest to a high level of painting craftsmanship.
The wide rim is richly decorated in iron-red and gold, with refined ornaments that frame and enhance the central image. The combination of the detailed figurative decoration and the luxurious edge finish is characteristic of high-quality Kutani porcelain from this period.
Such bowls were often produced for the export market and belong to the most artistically elaborated pieces within Japanese ceramics.
A distinctive and collectible object that commands a prominent place both as a wall piece and within a collection of Asian porcelain.
