Batak kendi (guri guri) pouring vessel from North Sumatra, Indonesia, made of cast brass with teak wood, dating to circa 1850–1900, dimensions 25 x 15 x 15 cm, weight 1608 g, in good condition with small signs of ageing, sold with its stand.

A typical Batak pouring vessel, kendi, is spherical in shape with one or more rounded spouts. Kendi were produced and traded throughout Southeast Asia. This kendi was made in North Sumatra. Beautiful patina of the old brass and wood, not often seen in europe.... in the the metropolitan museum in new york there is a similar piece in the collection but they call it a guri-guri a container of magical substances.... I think it's a kendi but ....
