Description from the seller
Exceptional Early Louis Vuitton Motor Trunk – Circa 1905–1915
An exceptional and highly rare early 20th-century Louis Vuitton Motor Trunk, dating from approximately 1905–1915, representing one of the earliest and most desirable forms of luxury automobile luggage ever produced by the Maison.
Designed specifically for the emerging era of motor travel, this type of trunk is significantly rarer than standard steamer trunks and was intended for use on early automobiles owned by the European elite. Today, authentic examples are increasingly difficult to find on the market and are highly sought after by serious collectors of historic travel and luxury design.
This trunk features the original Louis Vuitton monogram canvas, still clearly displaying the iconic LV pattern across the exterior. It retains its original wooden construction with metal reinforcements, side handles, and period-correct hardware. The interior is lined in original beige canvas and retains the early Louis Vuitton label marked “Rue Scribe, Paris” and “149 New Bond Street, London,” confirming its early production period.
A clearly visible “Motor Trunk” marking on the exterior confirms its original purpose-built design for automobile travel, a detail of strong importance for collectors and connoisseurs of early Louis Vuitton trunks.
Condition:
The trunk remains in honest antique condition, showing consistent and authentic signs of age, use, and patina developed over more than a century. The wear is uniform and natural for a piece of this age, enhancing its historical character and authenticity. Structurally, the trunk remains solid and stable, making it suitable for display in refined interiors or private collections.
This is a genuine early travel piece that has survived in original form, offering strong decorative presence and significant historical value.
