Description from the seller
Suzanne Porter is a photojournalist and visual artist, recognized for her humanitarian work through photography. She has traveled the world, close to people in distress, using photography as a powerful means to raise public awareness of crucial social issues and the changes needed through striking visual storytelling.
After a degree in social sciences, Suzanne sets off on the road, armed with her camera, until a boating accident severely damages her spine, with doctors fearing she might never walk again. It is during her rehabilitation that she picks up a camera for the first time and enrolls in a photography course. Seeking to escape chronic pain, Suzanne settles in Africa, armed with a Canon EOS 5 and a large supply of film. One of her early sales was to actress Kate Winslet, who bought two of her photographs taken on a beach in South Africa. Her first exhibition, drawn from photos she took in Zimbabwe in 2000, launches her career. Since then, she has worked with renowned humanitarian organizations such as CARE International, Sightsavers and Doctors Without Borders, and her works have been published in prestigious outlets like The Guardian and Condé Nast Traveller.
