Description from the seller
Exceptional exemplar of what is unanimously regarded as the first work of modern chemistry published in Portuguese and the first to introduce Lavoisier's revolutionary theories to the Lusophone-Brazilian world. This book is not only a scientific treatise but a key piece of Portugal's bibliographic heritage and, especially, of Brazil's.
Author of Immense Relief: Vicente Coelho de Seabra Silva Telles (1764-1804), born in Congonhas do Campo, Minas Gerais, Brazil. He was a brilliant naturalist and chemist, educated in Coimbra, and this work is the testimony of his precursor genius.
Dedicatória Histórica: The work is dedicated to the "Sociedade Litteraria do Rio de Janeiro" (Literary Society of Rio de Janeiro), underscoring its direct connection with the dawn of Brazilian intellectual life and the diffusion of science in the then colony. It is, therefore, a piece of early Braziliana.
