Author:
Ramón Fernández Martí, known artistically as Vilabrú, was born in Barcelona in 1915 and died in Madrid on August 24, 2010. Son of a military man, his childhood was marked by frequent relocations, living in cities such as Melilla, Ceuta, Barcelona, Santander, Zaragoza and finally Madrid, where he settled permanently.
From an early age he showed artistic inclination, starting drawing at nine years old in Burgos by copying the sculptural groups of its cathedral. At eleven he also began his literary activity, writing poetry. During the Spanish Civil War he developed his prose writing, leaving testimony of the conflict in his work Diario de un Soldado Español, for which he was recognized as a Witness of the Martyrs of Barbastro and later invited by Pope John Paul II to the beatification ceremony in the Vatican in 2007.
Between 1960 and 1980 he actively collaborated in various press outlets such as Heraldo de Aragón, Diario de Burgos and ABC, as well as in the magazine Esfera Automovilística, where he published articles, short stories and cartoons for years.
In the artistic field, he was awarded the Extraordinary Prize for Artistic Drawing by the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in 1935 and the Gold Medal of Sacred Art in 1945. He carried out numerous exhibitions throughout his life, highlighting his production of portraits and still lifes, as well as religious-themed works present in spaces such as the Church of San Andrés in Madrid, the Church of San José in Coy (Murcia) or the Episcopate of Madrid.
His literary production is extensive, including titles such as Rimas Matritenses, Poemas de Primer Amor, Los Enófilos, various collections of cartoons and short stories, among others. He maintained constant creative activity into advanced age, continuing to write, paint and draw practically until ninety-five.
The work presents a mountain landscape with a marked Pyrenean atmosphere, in which a set of rural constructions is depicted on a terraced hillside, surrounded by meadows and winding paths that structure the composition. In the background rise rugged mountain masses in blue and purplish tones, treated with a loose but firm brushstroke, while the sky, covered by dense clouds, introduces dynamism of light and environmental depth. The work conveys a sense of quiet and isolation, with a well-judged gradation of planes and a sober palette of greens, ochres, grays and blues that reinforces its naturalist character. The composition stands out for the balance between architecture and landscape, as well as for capturing the cold mountain light.
Frame: wide wooden frame, patinated light tone, with gold lines along the inner and outer edges. It presents a sober and elegant design, of classic taste, which enhances the scene without diminishing its prominence.
Observations:
The work may incur damage during transport even with proper packing. In such cases, we will request photographs of the damages to proceed with compensation. Customer satisfaction is always our priority.
