Description from the seller
RARE Japanese Kutani porcelain statuette - Budai and the Children - 1.8 kg
Description
Exceptional collectible piece: a significant antique polychrome porcelain statue, characteristic of Kutani style (Japan), mid-20th century.
This work depicts the monk Budai (symbol of luck and prosperity) seated on his fortune sack. It stands out for its high-quality craftsmanship, far from modern reproductions:
Authentic Kutani Style: Rich color palette and gilded detailing (spirals and geometric diamond motifs) typical of this manufacturer.
Striking Realism: Meticulous work on facial expression, gaze and beard, bearing true artistic know-how.
Beautiful Presence: Imposing, dense piece weighing 1.825 kg.
Dimensions: Length 25 cm | Height 17 cm | Width 14 cm.
Condition (Please read carefully)
The item is in good overall condition for its age, but like any old and authentic piece, it shows a few minor flaws and signs of time that attest to its history:
Nicks and glaze chips: Some light paint or glaze losses in places (notably on certain reliefs and edges, see close-up photos).
Craquelure: A superb network of natural cracks under glaze.
Wear from use: Light rubbing marks on protruding parts and the base.
No major crack or visible restoration.
Sold as is, with the marks of its history that give it all its charm.
