Han Rehm (1908-1970) - Ontwerptekening 'Het Koren'

Beautiful Art Deco design drawing for a relief. Probably for the Ship Nieuw Amsterdam in service of the Holland-America Line. That ship was completely rebuilt in the early 1950s after it had been used in the war as a troop transport. Also as early as 1941 he had already created designs for wooden reliefs commissioned by HAL.

'Het Koren

Top left the sowing, the time, the mowing, the bringing in of the corn.
The relief will be executed in these colors.'

Lovely drawing on paper. Mixed technique: charcoal and pencil highlighted with watercolor. Not framed. Signed bottom right.

The Rotterdam-born Han Rehm is primarily known as a sculptor; his sketches and drawings with scenes from daily life are less well known to the general public and reveal another, much livelier and sometimes mischievous side of his artistic career.
