Description from the seller
This striking Japanese tea bowl captures a dramatic moment where fire, glaze, and gravity come together in perfect balance.
A deep, dark Tenmoku base rises from the foot, rich and almost molten in appearance. From the rim, a thick white glaze flows downward in bold, organic cascades — like snow melting over a rugged landscape, or waterfalls cutting through dark stone. Each drip is frozen mid-motion, preserving the raw energy of the kiln.
No two angles tell the same story. As the light shifts, the surface reveals layers of depth, texture, and subtle variations created entirely by chance during firing. This is not a controlled decoration, but a collaboration between the artist and the unpredictable forces of nature.
The form itself is quietly powerful:
A well-balanced, slightly rounded body that fits naturally in the hands, with a grounded foot that anchors the piece with calm stability.
Signed tomobako (original wooden box) included.
While the artist remains relatively unknown, the presence of a signed box and the confident execution suggest a studio work of genuine character — a piece chosen not for the name, but for its undeniable visual impact.
A tea bowl that stands comfortably both as a functional object and as a sculptural presence.
A piece that speaks first to the eye, then slowly to the hand.
