AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

A handcrafted Karagumoy rooster basket
Philippines - Second half 20th century

Made in the Bicol region of the Philippines, specifically in Bacacay, Albay.
It is woven from the dried leaves of the Karagumoy plant (Pandanus simplex), a type of wild screw pine.
The striking two-tone checkered look is natural. It comes from the contrast between the different shades of the dried leaves. Karagumoy fiber is known for being incredibly tough and resistant to humidity, making these baskets last for decades.

While often nicknamed a "rooster basket" due to its unique shape, it was traditionally used for storing grain or as a sturdy bag for carrying goods.

Height = 40 cm
Width = 46 cm
Depth = 22 cm
Weight = 710 g

In good condition. Normal traces of age and use. Some wear, mostly on the bottom (see last 4 photos).
