Questa scultura francese bassorilievo in legno massiccio intagliato a mano rappresenta una creatura mitologica, identificabile come un grifone o una chimera. Dettagli come la testa piumata, il becco ricurvo e le ali suggeriscono una figura ibrida tipica del repertorio fantastico dell'antiquariato europeo. Il grifone, creatura ibrida con corpo di leone e testa/ali d'aquila, rappresenta nell'esoterismo la sintesi perfetta tra la natura terrena (terra/leone) e quella divina o celeste (cielo/aquila). Simboleggia forza, vigilanza, perfezione e unione degli opposti, agendo spesso come guardiano di tesori nascosti o del sacro Albero della Vita. 
Questa grande e rara scultura risale al XIX secolo, ispirandosi a stili medievali o rinascimentali.
Realizzato in legno di quercia, apprezzatO per la sua durevolezza e la capacità di mantenere dettagli nitidi nell'intaglio.
La scultura e' molto grande, queste le misure: cm. 70x36x14 e si appoggia su di un piano poiche' ha la sua base.
