Description from the seller

Barcelona. 1885. Leather, reliefs and gilding. 28x18. 15p. Wedding keepsake between Ricardo Monner Sans, and Ana (Anita) Fortuny Alemany. Ricardo Monner Sans, poet, sergeant in the Carlist War, was later Spain's consul in Hawaii from 1882 until he settled permanently in Argentina, in 1889, where he served as a professor at an institute. In the 19th century, the era of Hispanic American independence, the Catalan Monner Sans managed to capture in Buenos Aires the 'nostalgia for the Mother Country' that was in the air on that Continent and conceived October 12 as an 'emotional union of Spain with these recently formed republics'; as a 'Hispano-American confraternity'; as the 'festival of the great Hispano-American family'. Monner Sans also participated, two decades later, in the first celebration of October 12 organized by the Iberian-American Union in 1914 in Málaga, where Monner proposed the designation of 'Hispano-American Festival' in place of 'Festival of the Race'.
