Aluminium Bauhaus-style modernist table lamp attributed to Hala Zeist in the Netherlands, dating from circa 1960–1970, 30 cm wide, 30 cm deep, 45 cm high, silver finish with two fittings and in working order.
Description from the seller
A clean modernist table lamp in Bauhaus style, attributed to Hala Zeist, the Netherlands, circa 1960s–1970s (not marked)
The design is reduced to its essentials: a shallow domed aluminium shade, a slim chrome-plated stem and a simple circular base. Its strength lies in that disciplined simplicity. The lamp has clear lines and a visual authority.
The brushed metal shade catches the light beautifully, while the chrome stem adds a sharper, more reflective contrast.
The design also carries a Bauhaus sensibility, with its rational form, honest materials and practical construction. It would work beautifully as a desk lamp or on a sideboard.
The lamp is attributed to Hala Zeist, one of the early Dutch lighting companies, known for well-made modern lighting in the Netherlands. By the mid-20th century, Hala Zeist produced functional modernist lamps that stood alongside the work of other Dutch lighting makers such as Anvia, Dijkstra, Raak and Herda.
Condition
Vintage condition with signs of age and use, wear on the aluminium base, on the chrome and the shade shows light wear and one superficial dent (hardly visible). The switch and plug are later additions. The lamp is functional but should be rewired, the lightswitch is in the wrong place and it doesn't work perfectly (need to press extra to switch the lamp on)
