Pillbox - .800 silver - Ernest Eschwege (1900)

Beautiful French oval silver pillbox, decorated with a detailed Rococo-style engraving on the lid.

Such boxes were historically often used as a snuff box, pillbox, or for keeping other small trinkets.

Manufactured by the French silversmith Ernest Eschwege (1866-1941) who was active from 1890 to 1921.

This box would date from around 1900.

After decades of careful collecting I have decided to part with (part of) my collection. I am granting these special objects a place with a new owner who understands the value of historical preservation.
