Chinese hard stone sculpture elephant and boy –China- 20th Century
On offer is a well carved natural hard stone sculpture of an elephant and a boy. The details are very good, the sculpture feels soft on the touch by handling. The appearance is similar to jade but there are some visible line-structures indicating that this is more likely agate. The measurement of thermal conductivity also points in that direction. Nevertheless a good piece of craftsmanship!
Has been identified as non-jade but more likely agate, by appearance and by measuring thermal conductivity and hardness and translucency. Also checked with UV light; which indicates a natural color.
