Description from the seller
Exclusive Antique Lantern – Early 20th Century – Amsterdam School / Moorish Style
Description:
For auction: a rare and characterful piece of lighting history. This imposing lantern dates from the early 20th century (circa 1920–1930) and breathes the mystical atmosphere of the Amsterdam School period, in which Oriental and Moorish influences played a major role in European interior art.
Unique features of this object:
Authentic Origin & Age: This is not a modern reproduction, but an original antique piece with beautiful patina developed over time on the brass. The design reflects the fascination with the 'exotic' from the interwar period.
Rare Purple Relic Glass: The lantern is decorated all around with two bands of deep purple glass. This glass features a refined relief pattern (floral/oriental), creating an enchanting play of colors and a warm, mysterious glow once the lamp is lit.
Luxurious Facet-Cut centerpiece: The middle row of panels comprises high-quality, thick facet-cut glass. The sharply cut edges catch light in a splendid way and produce prism-like reflections in the space, a sign of high craftsmanship from that era.
Exceptional Construction: The heavy brass frame holds the various glass sections securely in place. The bottom side is removable, making the lamp multifunctional.
Condition:
Considering its age of over 100 years, this lamp is in remarkably good condition. The glass is fully intact and the metal has an authentic appearance that emphasizes its historical value.
