Bauhaus-style metal task lamp dating from the 1930s–1950s, made in Germany, 50 cm tall with a 30 cm depth and 30 cm width, multicolour lacquer with original patina, in working order and in fair condition.
Description from the seller
Will be offered in the Studio Eklektik Auction on Catawiki, 1st–10th May 2026.
A strong and functional Bauhaus style task lamp, made in Germany and dating most likely from the 1930s–1950s. The design is practical, honest and beautifully direct: a heavy round base, a straight lower column, a curved arm and a metal shade.
The black lacquered metal has a wonderful original patina. It has not been repainted, which gives the lamp much of its character. The surface shows wear, small losses, rubbing and age marks throughout, especially on the shade and around the edges. The inside of the shade also shows visible age and patina. These traces are part of the appeal: this is a working object with a life behind it, not a freshly polished imitation of one.
The lamp stands stable and has a good weight and presence. The shade can be adjusted from left to right and also angled up and down, making it useful as a desk lamp, reading lamp or small task light. The curved arm gives the silhouette a quiet elegance, while the heavy base keeps the design grounded.
Very suitable for an eclectic interior, a study or artist’s atelier or on top of bookshelves, where it adds a little industrial gravity and a very pleasing dose of Bauhaus.
Condition: vintage condition with original patina
Has a mark of maker on the shade (... Leuchten) not easy to read
Height: 50 cm / 19.7 in
Depth: 30 cm / 11.8 in
Width seen from front: 17 cm / 6.7 in
