Art déco vase in pressed-formed ouraline glass, Czech-made in the interwar period, green, with a tall, slender silhouette; height 20.4 cm, diameter 13 cm, weight 650 g, in excellent condition with very light signs of wear and uranium fluorescence under UV light.
Description from the seller
Superb Art Deco vase in molded-pressed uranium glass, produced in Czechoslovakia during the interwar period, as indicated by the mark “CZECHOSLOVAKIA” under the base. This export mark, commonly used between the 1920s and 1930s, allows linking the piece to the significant Bohemian glass production intended for the international market. Through its lines and decorative vocabulary, this model belongs to the sphere of major manufactories such as Rudolfova huť (Heřmanova Huť) or Inwald, known for their Art Deco pressed glass creations with dynamic and stylized forms.
The vase is distinguished by an elongated and structured silhouette: a polygonal foot with beveled facets supports a narrowed neck that flares into a widely widening conical body. The belly is animated by deep relief ribs, arranged in a fan, rising from the base toward the opening to create a highly characteristic vertical tension. The neck adopts a six-pointed festooned contour, slightly wavy, enhancing the floral aspect of the overall design. Seen from below, the decoration radiates in a star around the central pressing point, revealing the full technical mastery of the molding. The bright green hue, typical of ouraline, subtly varies in intensity according to the glass thickness, offering particularly decorative plays of transparency.
The condition is excellent, with no chips, cracks, or restorations to report. The glass retains all its brilliance and the sharpness of the mold, with only very light signs of use consistent with its age. Under ultraviolet light (395 nm), the vase shows bright and characteristic fluorescence, confirming the presence of uranium in the glass composition. A very slight tiny chip is present on an edge at the base.
Ouraline, or uranium glass, is obtained by adding small amounts of uranium oxides to the glass melt, a practice developed in the 19th century in Bohemia, a region at the forefront of glassmaking innovation. Highly prized during the Art Deco period for its unique chromatic qualities, this material enjoyed wide success before declining after World War II. Czech and Slovak productions of this era attest to a remarkable balance between aesthetic research and controlled industrial production, of which this vase is a particularly accomplished example.
Dimensions are:
- Height: 20.4 centimeters,
- Upper diameter: 13 centimeters,
- Base diameter: 7.8 centimeters,
- Weight: 650 grams.
The vase will be carefully packaged and shipped promptly in a secure manner. On-site pickup and combined shipping are available. Photos are part of the description.
