Montblanc Masterpiece 642 fountain pen with a gold-plated cap and black resin body, made in Germany in the second half of the 20th century, in good used condition and in working order.
Description from the seller
A0000003789
The Montblanc 642 fountain pen presented in this lot shows a highly notable state of preservation, with an overall elegant and well-preserved appearance, typical of an instrument that has been cared for over time.
The gold-plated cap, with its characteristic vertical striped finish, retains a deep and uniform shine. The surface preserves its original luster very well, showing only light micro-scratches from normal use on a vintage piece, with no visible loss of plating or notable dents. The clip is straight, firm, and correctly aligned, maintaining its original tension.
The black resin body also presents a very clean look, with a deep polish that reflects light well. Fine micro scratches from use over time are observable, but there are no cracks, deformations, or structural damages. The model engravings “642” and the “M” mark on the rear part of the body remain crisp and perfectly legible.
The Montblanc emblem on the top of the cap is in very good condition, with well-defined contours and no appreciable material loss.
The 14C Montblanc gold nib, engraved with the classic mountain motif and the inscriptions “14C – Montblanc – 585,” is visually well preserved, although the bi-color has worn. The tines are correctly aligned and the iridium point shows good integrity. The ebonite feed is clean and well preserved.
The pen has been serviced and tested, ensuring proper writing functionality.
Overall, this is a very well-preserved specimen, with an aesthetically very appealing presence and with discreet usage signs consistent with its age.
Conservation recommendations
To preserve this piece in optimal condition, it is recommended to use high-quality fountain pen inks, avoid pigmented inks, clean the system with lukewarm water if it is not used for a period, dry it properly before storing, and keep it in a dry place, without direct light or extreme temperatures. Always operate the filling system gently to prolong the mechanism’s life.
It will be sent in a courtesy box for proper preservation.
Happy bidding!
