Montblanc Masterpiece 642 fountain pen with a gold-plated cap and black resin body, made in Germany in the second half of the 20th century; one piece, 127 mm long and 13 mm in diameter, in good used condition and in working order.
Description from the seller
The Montblanc 642 fountain pen shown in this lot is in a highly regarded state of conservation, with an overall elegant and well-preserved appearance, typical of an instrument that has been cared for over time.
The gold-plated cap, with its characteristic vertical brushed finish, retains a deep and uniform shine. The surface preserves its original lustre very well, showing only light micro-scratches from superficial use, normal in a vintage piece, with no visible plating loss or notable dents. The clip is straight, firm, and correctly aligned, maintaining its original tension.
The black resin body also presents a very clean look, with a deep polish that reflects light well. Fine micro-scratches from use are visible, typical of the passage of time, but there are no cracks, deformations, or structural damage. The model engraving “642” and the brand “M” on the rear of the body remain crisp and perfectly legible.
The Montblanc emblem on the top of the cap is in very good condition, with well-defined contours and no appreciable material loss.
The 14K gold Montblanc nib, engraved with the classic mountain motif and the inscriptions “14K – Montblanc – 585,” is in excellent visual condition. The feeds are properly aligned and the iridium tip shows good integrity. The ebonite feed is clean and well preserved.
The pen has been inspected and tested, ensuring proper writing performance.
Overall, this is a very well-preserved specimen, with an aesthetically very appealing presence and signs of use that are discreet and consistent with its age.
Conservation recommendations
To preserve this piece in optimal condition, it is recommended to use high-quality inks specifically designed for fountain pens, avoid pigmented inks, flush the system with lukewarm water if it will not be used for a while, dry it properly before storing, and keep it in a dry place, away from direct light and extreme temperatures. Always operate the filling system gently to prolong the mechanism’s life.
It will be shipped in a courtesy box for proper conservation.
