Vallérysthal - Tray - Manganese - Art Deco

Grand plateau on a transparent molded glass foot from Vallérysthal crystal, Art Deco production of the 1930s, bearing the signature “VALLÉRYSTHAL” at the center. This piece powerfully illustrates the era’s taste for dynamic compositions and optical play, while maintaining strong formal legibility.

The tray adopts a circular shape with a slightly lobed edge, entirely animated by a spiraling decor of broad ribbed ribs. These deeply molded motifs create a sense of continuous movement from the center outward, accented by the rhythmic repetition of concentric arcs. The center, marked by a circular medallion bearing the signature, acts as a visual anchor for this radiant composition. The stem, relatively slender, repeats this decorative vocabulary with twisted ribs that flare into a wide, stable base, forming a fluid continuity between the tray and its support. The whole presents a particularly rich play of light, the relief catching and diffracting light according to the viewing angles.

The condition is very good. No cracks or major chips to report. Only a small discreet chip noted located under the tray, in the relief motifs, barely visible in presentation. Some light signs of use may be observed, in keeping with the piece’s age.

In the 1930s, the Vallérysthal crystal works, founded in the 19th century in Lorraine, fully embraced the Art Deco movement by developing a deep-pressed molded glass production with bold and modern motifs. Like other great manufacturers, it adapted its know-how to meet the demands of more accessible production while maintaining a clearly defined aesthetic research, favoring relief effects, play of transparency, and geometric or dynamic compositions characteristic of that period.
