Treatise on Rachitis, or the art of straightening deformed children. By M. Levacher de la Feutrie … In Paris: at Lacombe, bookseller, rue Christine, 1772. Pp. XV, (1), 446, (2); cm. 19.5 x 13. Signs of time and natural wear, not heavy, but exemplary in order. Contemporary binding in full leather, scuffs and losses to the spine; slight foxing on the inside. Original edition of the work by A. F. Thomasi Levacher De La Feutrie (1739 – 1824): a treatise on the history, diagnosis, and treatment of rickets in childhood, a matter that the author, a physician-surgeon, has studied with care. There are five folded plates at the end of the volume, engraved by Beyssengt; they depict orthopedic devices elaborated by Levacher himself. In figures 2 and 3, among others, a machine to be applied to an infant afflicted with rickets is presented for the first time.
