Description from the seller

Paperweight / Letter Weight VSL Val Saint Lambert pinkish-rose (cranberry)

The hand-cut and color-overlaid paperweights from the famous Belgian glassworks “Cristalleries du Val Saint-Lambert” were, with a few exceptions, produced as after-work pieces by the glass cutters and are mostly shown in catalogs and marketed designs.

For example, in the book “Presse-papiers de prestige – Presse-papiers populaires” about VSL paperweights, it reads: “The glassmakers created the paperweights during their breaks or after hours. Then they could let their imagination run free, unlike in serial production. Often the cutter refined the mass of the colored crystal. In this way we did each other small favors. And the superiors turned a blind eye or sometimes hands-on joined in. There are no signatures—except for those we know were made by Charles Graffart; no dates or at most a few assumed or inferred ones when two given names intertwine for a marriage, when a name signals retirement. (…) Nevertheless, the old Val Saint-Lambert paperweights have not received the recognition they deserve for the reasons above. This is paradoxical, as they are becoming rarer. Only the wealthiest museums and the most beautiful private or public collections own one or the other specimen.”

These crystal objects are therefore unique pieces, roughly dating from the period between 1880 and 1930.

The unusually richly cut paperweight is made of clear crystal with a pinkish (“cranberry”) overlay. It has three lateral facets, each radiating at the edge, and an upper window. In between, star-, diamond-, and rhombus-shaped facets can be seen.
At the bottom it bears a 16-point ground star.

Dimensions (approx.):
Weight: 820 g
Largest diameter: 8.2 cm
Height: 6.1 cm

Condition: The paperweight is in very good condition. Age-typical light rubbing marks on the underside.

The images are original photos of the offered item and are part of the description. Color deviations may occur due to camera and monitor settings.

From a pet-free non-smoking household. No returns. The sale is made without any liability for material defects. The description is provided to the best of our knowledge.

Insured DHL shipping. Personal pickup is also possible.
