The streamlined bodies are beautifully modelled, conveying a sense of gentle movement. A soft gradient transitions from a translucent blue-green along the back to a delicate salmon pink at the fins and tail, creating a harmonious and refreshing visual effect. The smooth, lustrous surface characteristic of bone china enhances the subtle colouration and lends the pieces a refined, almost luminous quality. Ayu fish symbolise purity, summer, and the beauty of unspoiled rivers in Japanese culture, making this pair both decorative and evocative. Both figures bear the Noritake backstamp reading “Noritake BONE CHINA NIPPON TOKI JAPAN” with the laurel and lamp mark, indicating production in the mid-Showa period, circa 1950s–1960s. The pieces are in good vintage condition overall, with the surfaces retaining their beautiful original gloss. Please note there is one very small chip on a fin.
