(*) Eduardo Chillida was born in San Sebastián (Gipuzkoa), in 1924. In 1947 he created his first pieces. For two years (1948-1950) he resided in France where he first exhibited. Upon returning to the Basque Country, he settled in Hernani where he created his first iron work, "Ilarik" (1951), the material with which he would work for ten years. Around 1960 he returned to large granite sculptures. His first exhibition was presented in Madrid, in 1954; quickly followed works and successes. He was one of the 30 creators who used fragments of the Berlin Wall as canvas. Since 1996 he has been part of the artistic advisory commission of the Museum of Fine Arts of Bilbao. One of the leading representatives of the contemporary Spanish scene alongside Tàpies, Miró, Oteiza, Saura, Palazuelo, Millares among others. He saw his dream of having an outdoor museum come true. He died in his hometown in 2002.
