Description from the seller
The work shown is a painting by Ernesto Treccani (Milan, 1920-2009), probably part of his famous series dedicated to the "Faces" or to female portraits. It is a mixed-media technique on canvas in which the artist explores the human figure through an extremely essential and poetic line. Here are the salient features of the composition.
Essential Lines: The face is delineated by thin, almost evanescent strokes that define its contours with a simplicity reminiscent of Treccani's pursuit of purity in his late period.
Chromatic Atmosphere: The background is not a defined space, but an amalgam of pastel tones (pink, pale green, yellow) that create a dreamlike, suspended atmosphere. The brushstrokes of more intense purple and green around the head suggest natural elements, such as leaves or a crown of flowers.
Spiritual Expressiveness: The figure's gaze, though hinted at with a few touches, conveys a sense of melancholic sweetness. Treccani’s painting indeed seeks to bridge the distance between inner feeling and outer form, aiming for a synthesis between the self and the world.
Treccani, founder of the movement "Corrente" and a key figure of Italian Neorealism, in these later works abandons direct social denunciation to focus on a more lyrical and universal dimension of the human being.
