Description from the seller
Title: Horses
School: European (19th century)
Style: 19th-century Realism
Technique: Oil on panel
Genre-scene, rural character depicting several saddled horses in the vicinity of a rustic building, possibly a stable or farm outbuilding. In the foreground three horses stand out, treated with particular anatomical and luminous attention, while in the background there is a moving equestrian figure that adds depth and dynamism to the composition.
The color palette unfolds in earthy tones, ochres and greens, with atmospheric treatment of the sky suggesting changing weather. The brushwork, loose but controlled, responds to the aims of European Realism of the 19th century, with interest in the naturalistic representation of the rural environment and the study of the animal.
The work conveys a sense of everyday life and calm, capturing a moment of rest within agricultural activity.
Wooden carved and gilded frame, with a molded profile and aged finish. Robust and classical structure, in line with the period of the work, adding presence and emphasis to the ensemble.
Measurements:
Without frame: 33 x 20 cm
With frame: 32 x 35 cm
Notes:
Restorations present.
