Description from the seller
Beautiful table set in pressed molded half-crystal comprising ten plates and a round dish, model “Rodin” from Val Saint Lambert, as listed in the 1951 catalog. This production fully aligns with post-war aesthetics, where Belgian crystal combines tradition and modernity by offering structured, legible forms that are elegantly decorative and suited to careful daily use.
The ten plates feature a slightly concave circular shape, centered by a distinctly marked umbilicus underscored by a finely crenellated ring. Their rims are delicately raised and adorned with the characteristic “Rodin” moulding, consisting of a regular sequence of raised motifs evoking a frieze of links or geometric pearls, giving the perimeter a strong visual rhythm that is highly representative of 1950s taste. The larger-diameter dish strictly repeats this formal vocabulary: a broad central basin, a clean structure and the same moulded border, ensuring perfect service unity. The clear, luminous material highlights the precision of the pressing and the relief effects.
The overall condition is very good for the plates, with no major damage to report: only signs of use in the form of fine cutlery marks. One plate shows traces of red paint on the rim. The dish is in fair condition, with more pronounced surface scratches, indicating more frequent use, but without detracting from its overall presentation.
In the early 1950s, Val Saint Lambert extensively developed its pressed mold half-crystal production to meet growing demand for elegant yet accessible services. The “Rodin” model fits into this dynamic, reflecting a desire to combine industrial rationalization with aesthetic quality. Through the controlled repetition of its motif and the clarity of its lines, it perfectly illustrates the factory’s evolution toward functional creations while maintaining the high standard of craftsmanship that has earned its reputation.
Average dimensions are:
- Diameter: 29 cm > 19.5 cm,
- Height: 2.8 cm > 1.8 cm,
- Total weight of the set: 4500 grams.
Each of the eleven items will be individually packaged with care and the set will be shipped promptly in a secure manner. In-store pickup and combined delivery are available. The photos are part of the description.
