Description from the seller

Faenza Ceramic Jewelry Box - Signed by Laura Silvagni, 1995

Magnificent circular box with lid, a masterwork of Italian maiolica pottery hand-painted. This piece comes from Faenza, a city with a world-renowned ceramic tradition dating back to the Renaissance.

Details of the Work:

• Artist: Laura Silvagni. Silvagni is a renowned master of the arts in Faenza, known for her technical virtuosity and her ability to reinterpret historical styles. She has run her own workshop, "La Vecchia Faenza", keeping traditional techniques alive.
• Origin: Faenza, Italy.
• Dating: 1995 (as signed).
• Material: Hand-painted maiolica ceramic.
• Technique: High-fire decoration.

Visual Description and Style:

The box presents a flattened globular shape with a concave lid topped by a decorative knob. The decoration is extremely rich and detailed, typical of the "Raffaellesco" style or grotesques, evoking the splendor of the Italian Renaissance.

The surface is dominated by a deep, intense cobalt blue background, upon which unfolds an intricate network of acanthus scrolls, candelieri and grotesques in ochre yellow, green and turquoise tones. In the center, an orange and gold dot-painted rosette surrounds the knob.
