Handmade cotton wall tapestry from northwestern India (Rajasthan/Gujarat), dating to 1960–1970, composed of patchworked panels with gold and silver metallic embroidery and mirror accents, measuring 70 × 116 cm.
Description from the seller
Splendid hand-made wall tapestry from India, probably from Rajasthan or Gujarat, dating to the 1970s–1980s.
The work is composed of numerous patchwork panels sewn together, each richly hand-embroidered with gold and silver metallic threads ( zari/zardozi technique). Each square features unique geometric and floral motifs, enriched with small applied mirrors (shisha embroidery) that create a luminous effect characteristic of textile craftsmanship in northwestern India.
The side edge is finished with a fine metallic fringe woven in gold and black. On the lower side there are visible small tassels and colored-thread loops, typical of the region’s tribal craftsmanship. The back is lined with dark blue fabric with visible orange stitching — workmanship that confirms the piece’s authenticity and artisanal origin.
The tapestry comes with a wooden rod sewn into the upper edge, ready to be hung directly on the wall.
Dimensions: 70 × 116 cm
Materials: cotton, gold and silver metallic threads, glass mirrors, metallic fringes, wooden rod
Condition: good, appropriate for age and use. Some loose threads and dulled mirrors, typical of vintage wear. Small stains on the back.
