DESCRIPTION

Statue birmane représentant un moine ou adorant, disciple de Bouddha, ces statues étaient offertes par les fidèles pour lui rendre hommage, en bois laqué et doré à la feuille d'or.

Elles étaient placées à proximité de la statue de Bouddha dans les temples ou les monastères. 

Un set est complet pouvait compter jusqu'à 7 statuettes représentant les plus importants disciples ayant reçu leur enseignement de Bouddha lui-même et vénérés en Birmanie. 

En fonction de la richesse des donateurs, ceux-ci pouvait donner une seule statue ou plusieurs.

Très belle laque et dorure d'origine, on retrouve le nom du moine inscrit sur le devant de la statue, il s'agit de Sariputta, un des deux principaux disciple de Bouddha. L’inscription est ancienne mais plus tardive que la statue, en effet, le socle a été relaqué, comme souvent.

Circa première moitié du XXème siècle, région de Bagan.

19,5 cms de hauteur, 8,7 cms de largeur, 10  cms de profondeur.

Objet ancien et décoratif.

LE VENDEUR

Depuis plus de 30 ans, je parcours l'Asie du Sud Est et surtout la Birmanie, pour le plaisir, pour les rencontres mais également pour collecter des objets anciens, de plus en plus difficiles à trouver. Ces objets ont été achetés dans la région de Bagan en 2020 . Je collecte ces statuettes depuis mon premier voyage en Birmanie, au début des années 90, et les marchands avec qui je travaille les collectaient pour moi, avant le coup d'état.

ETAT

Etat correct pour un objet de cette époque mais porte les traces de son âge, la dorure est partiellement effacée à certains endroits, ce qui n'enlève rien à son charme  (voir photos).
