About the artist:
Paul Indrek Kostabi is a US-American artist, born in 1962 in Whittier, California. The musician, music producer and sound engineer is the brother of the artist Mark Kostabi. Kostabi was a founding member of Youth Gone Mad, White Zombie and Psychotica. Paul Kostabi currently performs with Tony Esposito in the band Kostabeats and with Walter Schreifels’s band Dead Heavens. His works are known for being psychedelic and intense, with glossy faces on canvases designed as splashes of color. His abstractions can be compared with those of Julian Schnabel, Jean-Michel Basquiat or Giles Lyon. Paul Kostabi is known as a very relaxed character: he loves to paint on high-quality canvas, in a museum, or simply on a piece of cardboard found in a trash container. His spirit guides him, and you can feel it when you look at his work: effort is palpable between every brushstroke. His paintings are sudden explosions of painting, similar to a Jackson Pollock painting. Kostabi has collaborated with Dee Dee Ramone on numerous paintings and illustrated the cover of Chelsea Hotel, which was written by Dee Dee Ramone. In 2012 he launched his brand: Bad Things, which sells his works on various devices such as iPhones.
Paul Kostabi’s paintings are a permanent part of the collections of the following museums: Paterson Museum, New Jersey, Guggenheim Museum, New York, New England Museum of Art, Brooklyn, Connecticut Millennium Museum, Whitney Museum of Art, Video, Paper Tiger Sessions, Museion Museum, Bolzano, Italy
