Magnificent Sheaffer Intrigue set comprising a fountain pen and a matching ballpoint, preserved in excellent overall condition. The chrome and gunmetal metallic finish maintains a deep, even shine, with only light signs of surface wear typical of careful preservation and the passage of time, with no significant dings or structural deformities.

The fountain pen preserves one of the most emblematic elements of the collection: its spectacular “Inlaid Nib” in white gold 14K / 585, manufactured in the USA, in size M (Medium). The nib is clean, correctly aligned and fully functional, also offering the aerodynamic and futuristic aesthetic characteristic of the Intrigue series.

The original Sheaffer filling system remains complete and functional. This model incorporates the well-known “captive converter” system, a captive converter integrated inside the pen body, developed specifically for the Intrigue line. Unlike traditional detachable converters, the mechanism is permanently integrated inside the fountain pen, preserving the clean, continuous aesthetics of the design.

Operation of the system is performed by partially unscrewing the rear cap, leaving visible a small internal metal knob that actuates the converter piston. When turned with the nib submerged in ink, the system draws ink into the internal reservoir. It is a sophisticated and uncommon technical solution, highly appreciated today by collectors and Sheaffer enthusiasts for its manufacturing complexity and mechanical uniqueness.

The matching ballpoint maintains excellent aesthetic presence and proper operation of its twist mechanism.

The set conveys great solidity, balanced weight, and a level of manufacturing quality typical of Sheaffer’s latest major Fort Madison, Iowa productions.

Conservation recommendations:
Use quality fountain pen inks and avoid pigment inks. Clean with lukewarm water if not used for a while. Dry completely before storing. Keep in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Operate the filling system gently.
