This item is the SciSys Kasparov Turbostar 432, an iconic electronic chess computer from the 1980s. The device was the result of an early collaboration between manufacturer SciSys and the then World Champion Garry Kasparov.
Key Features
Release: Introduced around 1984/1985 as the successor to the Superstar 36K.
Hardware: It runs on a 4 MHz 6502 processor and has 32 KB ROM and 4 KB RAM.
Play levels: The computer features 31 adjustable play levels and more than 4,000 programmable tournament settings.
Technology: The board uses pressure sensors; by pressing a lighted pawn you register your move.
Strength: In the 1980s it was estimated at an Elo rating above 2,000, which was extremely strong for a consumer computer at the time.
Usage and Power: The device can be powered by an 8V DC adapter or by 6 C batteries (LR14), allowing you to play for about 8 to 15 hours. The computer's moves are indicated by red LEDs at the edges of the board.
