Description from the seller
Zeiss Ikon Ikoflex I (850/16) - High-Spec Klio Edition (c. 1938-1950)
Experience the legendary build quality of Zeiss Ikon with this Ikoflex I (Model 850/16). Produced in Stuttgart, Germany, this model was Zeiss Ikon’s robust answer to the Rolleiflex. This specific unit is a higher-specification variant, featuring the faster f/4.5 Novar lens and the superior Klio shutter, which offered a wider range of speeds than the entry-level Derval models. Known for its "tank-like" construction, this 6x6 TLR is a cornerstone of German photographic history.
Key Benefits
High-Spec Optics: Equipped with the faster 80mm f/4.5 Novar-Anastigmat lens, providing better low-light performance and shallower depth of field than standard f/6.3 versions.
Premium Klio Shutter: Features the sophisticated Klio shutter mechanism, offering a broader range of exposure timings for the creative photographer.
Industrial Design Icon: A stunning display of pre-war and early post-war German engineering, featuring the classic top-mounted Art Deco focusing scale.
Features
Camera Type: Twin Lens Reflex (TLR)
Film Format: 120 Roll Film (6x6cm frames)
Taking Lens: Novar-Anastigmat 80mm f/4.5 (as engraved: 1:4.5 f=8cm)
Viewing Lens: Teronar-Anastigmat 75mm f/3.5
Shutter: Klio (High-spec leaf shutter)
Shutter Speeds: 1 sec – 1/175 sec, plus Bulb (B) and Time (T)
Focusing: Manual front-mounted lever with top-facing distance scale
Condition
Rated: 2.5/5
Cosmetic: The camera shows heavy signs of use and age. There is significant paint loss (brassing) on the metal edges and corners. Technical Detail: Visible green oxidation/corrosion is present on the chrome edges of the lens plate and some screw heads.
Optics: The lenses show internal haze and dust consistent with its age. The viewing screen is functional but dim and requires internal cleaning.
Mechanical: The shutter fires and the focusing lever moves the lens board. However, given the visible oxidation and age, the accuracy of the shutter speeds is not guaranteed.
Note: This camera is sold primarily as a "Collectible / Display Item." A professional restoration/CLA would be required for reliable photographic use.
Case: Included is the original brown leather case in poor condition. The metal lock is heavily weathered and rusted, and the leather strap is extremely dry and fragile.
What's Included
Zeiss Ikon Ikoflex 850/16 Camera
Original Leather Case (Poor condition/Rusted lock)
Vintage Lead Seal/Tag (attached to strap)
Why This Product?
Despite its heavy patina, this Ikoflex I is a desirable find due to the upgraded f/4.5 lens and Klio shutter combination. It represents the "heavy-duty" philosophy of Zeiss Ikon engineering. Whether you are a collector looking for a high-spec variant for display or a restorer looking for a mechanically interesting project, this Ikoflex is a true survivor of the golden age of German TLRs.
