Description from the seller

Important Imari Japanese ceremonial charger – Meiji period – 40.5 cm

Rare and spectacular large Japanese platter in polychrome Imari porcelain, handmade in Japan during the Meiji era, towards the end of the 19th century. This imposing piece, 40.5 cm in diameter, immediately captivates with the elegance of its traditional decoration combining deep cobalt blue, bright iron red, greens, and delicate gilt highlights.

The main design features majestic sacred cranes moving among Japanese pines, vegetation and stylized floral motifs, ancestral symbols of longevity, prosperity, and refinement in Nipponese art. The monochrome blue center, executed with exquisite brushwork, provides a remarkable visual balance and a depth typical of the finest Arita productions intended for Western export.

The quality of execution is particularly appealing:
- fully hand-painted,
- superb dense and luminous cobalt,
- rich and nuanced enamels,
- very beautiful decorative presence.

The back shows the traditional firing traces on pins as well as a blue underglaze decoration characteristic of high-quality old Japanese productions.

A very large, extremely decorative piece, ideal for:
- Japanese collection,
- Japonisme interior,
- cabinet of curiosities,
- high-end wall decoration,
- collection of antique Imari porcelain.
