Description from the seller
Two very beautiful and identical Thonet-style bistro chairs. The chairs are still in particularly good condition. They probably date from the 1960s of the last century (they may be slightly older). They were probably produced in Austria (but that is not certain; it could also be Czechoslovakia, Poland or Hungary). The height is 89 cm, the seat height is 46 cm, the diameter of the seat is 40 cm and the depth is about 50 cm and the width of the chairs is about 42 cm. The chairs each weigh about 3 kg.
It concerns two bistro chairs, probably No. 10, with a woven seat and back. There is no label on the bottom. The chairs could be original Thonet chairs (they are identical to the original variant) but that is not certain.
Michael Thonet is regarded as the first and most important furniture designer. He was also the first to perfect bending wood with steam to such an extent that it could be applied in industrial furniture manufacture. In these chairs, the steam-bent elements are clearly visible as well. This gave the Thonet chair its stability. It is remarkable how stable these chairs still are, despite an age of about 100 years!
Both chairs are still 100% original. No repairs are visible anywhere, and all original fasteners are still present. In addition, the chairs are still completely stable. So not only are these antique chairs a very beautiful piece of furniture for any interior, but they are also fully usable as chairs.
They are very beautiful chairs for any setting and of course they are conversation pieces, with the history they bring.
The chairs are professionally packed and insured for shipment.
