Exceptional conservation status for a collectible piece of this category. The fountain pen shows very careful upkeep, maintaining the imposing presence and artisanal character typical of the Montegrappa limited edition “Le Signore del Mare.” The solid 925 silver body preserves great definition in the naval engravings and decorative reliefs, with a homogeneous shine and only very slight superficial signs of handling compatible with very occasional use and proper storage.
The sections in black celluloid/resin with marmoled ivory coloring maintain excellent coloration, depth, and shine, with no cracks, deformations, or visible structural losses. The spectacular sculpted clip depicting the figurehead preserves very good detail and firmness. The rings and ornamental elements in silver show notable conservation, with light micro marks inherent to the passage of time that do not affect the overall aesthetics of the piece.
The two-tone 18-carat gold nib is in excellent visual condition, correctly aligned and without appreciable deformations. The ebonite feed retains its integrity and the piston-fiston filling system operates smoothly and precisely. The pen has been inspected and tested to ensure proper operation before sale.
The set is accompanied by its original Montegrappa wooden case, original documentation, and the brand’s fabric sleeve, accessories highly valued by collectors and that notably increase the appeal and value of the set. The box shows very light storage signs consistent with its age, maintaining a magnificent overall presence.
This is a limited edition especially sought after within Montegrappa’s maritime-themed collections, standing out for its execution quality as well as its strong sculptural and artistic character.
Conservation recommendations:
- Use high-quality ink for fountain pens and avoid pigmented inks. Clean periodically with warm water if not used for an extended period. Dry completely before storage. Store in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Operate the filling system gently to preserve the internal mechanism.
