A Dadaist painter in New York and a surrealist photographer in the City of Light, Man Ray was one of the most important figures of the entire 20th century. Able to explore any expressive language in his quest, the artist moved between sculpture, graphics, painting, photography and cinema, creating a body of works of invaluable value.
Le Violon d’Ingres is undoubtedly his most famous shot. Made in 1924 to portray his beloved Kiki de Montparnasse, the photogram is now housed at the Musée National d'Art Moderne within the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
