Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
Rare Meiji-era Kutani porcelain teapot from Japan, circa 1890–1915, hand-painted with geishas and gold detailing, height 24 cm with lid, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Rare and elegant Japanese porcelain teapot Kutani-yaki dating from the late Meiji period, circa 1890-1915.
This refined piece perfectly embodies the golden age of Japonisme that captivated European great houses at the end of the 19th century.
The dynamic silhouette with almost Art Nouveau lines is enhanced by a hand-painted decoration of remarkable delicacy: geishas in kimonos, poetic landscapes, flowering trees and traditional Japanese motifs heightened by generous gilt in fine gold.
The red iron-and-gold handles, particularly sculptural, give the whole piece a theatrical and precious presence. The original lid is preserved, a feature now rare on this type of piece.
The mark under the base confirms Japanese Kutani-quality production.
A refined decorative work as much as a true witness to European Japonisme
