Pair of Art Deco Bookends - Black Marble, Onyx & Silvered Metal - "Skyscraper" Design - France, ca. 1930
Authentic Art Deco bookends, dating from the late 1920s to early 1930s. These pieces perfectly embody the "Machine Age" aesthetic with their architectural "skyscraper" motif and bold geometric lines.
The bookends are expertly crafted from a high-quality combination of natural stones. Central to each piece is a stylized, stepped metal ornament (likely silvered bronze or spelter) that reflects the iconic Art Deco fascination with verticality and modern architecture.
Both pieces are in good vintage condition with signs of age and are consistent with their century-old history. There are some minor fleabites/chips to the edges of the marble and onyx (as seen in photos), which is typical for stone objects of this period. The patina on the metal ornaments is original and undisturbed.
