Before Campari fully retired the Austin Nichols name, bottles of Russell's Reserve still carried the label serious collectors want to see: Distilled by Austin, Nichols Distilling Company, Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. This bottle, filled on March 7, 2013, is among the last to do so — making it a genuine endpoint of an era.
Crafted under Jimmy Russell at the height of his powers, this is textbook Wild Turkey at its most refined. The nose opens with butterscotch, vanilla, and warm oak, with ripe fruit and light tannins adding depth. The palate is silky and smooth — sweet vanilla meets seasoned oak and a whisper of tobacco, lifted by a slightly fruity character that sets it apart. The finish is long and measured, oak and spice fading slowly into something genuinely satisfying.
