Description from the seller

Jules Verne. Family Without a Name.

82 drawings by Tiret-Bognet and a color map.

Paris, Library of Education and Recreation, Jules Hetzel publisher. SD (circa 1892). 422 pages. Publisher's binding in polychrome percaline “with pasted portrait” bound by Lenègre (second cover type “E”) with a lighthouse spine. Original endpapers. Gilded edges. Printing Gauthier-Villars. Catalog “GK” at the end with the 1892-93 new releases.

Publisher's binding is rare for this title, well complete with the 12 plates and the color map. Binding in good condition but a bit dull, top edges creased with small tears, corners creased, stains on the second cover. Beautiful gutter margins. Foxing and a few ink marks. (see numerous photos). Endpapers solid.

Work 100% natural, not restored.

Jules Verne illustrates the life of a family in Lower Canada during the Patriotes Rebellion (1837-1838); this book does not end happily, in fact, the young and fierce Jean sans Nom will compensate the defeat by plunging himself with his ship set on fire by the English in Niagara Falls. Jules Verne wanted to remind his compatriots of the problems faced by the French-speaking community in Canada at the time of the book’s release. Jean-sans-nom is a young hero who defends liberty in the spirit of Captain Nemo from Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea.

Rare binding for this little-known Jules Verne title, in good condition…
