Description from the seller
DESCRIPTION
Large gilded and lacquered wooden reliquary shaped like a stupa, Myanmar. The main body of this votive stupa model comprises 5 niches housing a standing Buddha, the left arm along the body and the right arm raised to mid-height, the palm facing upward, dispelling evil and preventing conflicts.
The top of the stupa features an interesting elongated finial in the shape of a lotus bud, itself surmounted by a bell-shaped assembly consisting of 8 metal elements and 8 metal leaves, movable, which was supposed to move with the wind.
Under the base, the reliquary is found, closed by a metal-plated nailed plate.
Circa early 20th century, Mandalay region.
41 cm in height, 9 cm in diameter.
Antique decorative object.
THE SELLER
For more than 30 years, I have travelled Southeast Asia and especially Burma, for pleasure, for encounters but also to collect antique objects, increasingly difficult to find. I also buy on the European market when the opportunity presents itself. Jean Dumoulin.
CONDITION
Condition is fair for an object of this era but bears the signs of its age and use, the summit has most likely been restored at the base of the bell but it spins on its axis, the gilding is partially worn away in places, which does not take away from its charm (see photos).
Careful and traceable shipping.
