Description from the seller

DESCRIPTION

Beautiful bronze statue representing the Buddha Shakyamuni seated in vajrasana, right hand in bhumisparsha mudra, calling the earth to witness, left hand resting on its heel, wearing the samghati, serene and gentle expression, eyes half-closed in almond shape, elongated earlobes, in meditation.

The "ball" he holds in his left hand is the stylized representation of the Vitarka Mudra and symbolizes the transmission of teaching.

Attention, resin has been poured inside, probably to make the statue more stable; the core is therefore not visible but there is no doubt about the piece’s antiquity.

Burma, Ava period, 18th century.

Height: 31.5 cm. Width: 15.5 cm. Depth: 9.7 cm. Weight: 2803 g

Attention, resin has been poured inside, probably to make the statue more stable; the core is therefore not visible but there is no doubt about the piece’s antiquity.

CONDITION

The statue is in fair condition, showing signs of age, oxidation, small chip at the bottom of the base. See photos.
