Dalahäst carved from solid wood and hand-painted, dating to the mid-20th century (circa 1960–1970) in Scandinavian design, with a black base and traditional red, white and blue-green kurbits painting; height about 21 cm, width 20 cm, depth 6.5 cm, in good used condition.
Description from the seller
Swedish Dala horse / Dalahäst made of wood – hand-carved and hand-painted – probably mid-20th century
Decorative original Dala horse (Dalahäst) from Sweden, crafted from solid wood and hand-carved as well as hand-painted. The horse features a rarer black base color with traditional Swedish kurbits painting in red, white and blue-green.
Particularly characteristic are the visible carving marks and the slightly irregular shape, indicating authentic handwork. The painting also appears to be done by hand and not applied industrially. On the underside the wood grain is lightly visible through the paint. No manufacturer or paper markings, which is common for older pieces.
The horse overall gives an authentic older impression and is likely from the mid-20th century. Probably traditional Swedish folk art from the Dalarna region.
Condition:
Good age-appropriate condition with light signs of use and small wear marks, especially on the ears and along some edges. Age-related marks and small surface irregularities present (possible resin exudation?). Overall very decorative and charmingly preserved.
Dimensions:
Height approx. 21 cm
A beautiful collectible of Swedish folk art and Scandinavian design.
