Description from the seller

3 pc ethnic Burmese animal bells 19th century. Shane States.

In Southeast Asian culture animal bells play an important part and are find in many different forms, shapes and materials. These bells were used to track the movement of livestock and keep the herd together while grazing in the open field. The diversity of animal bells in Burma is just as rich as the patchwork of ethnic minorities. Made with attention for detail, grounded in a long tradition of bronze casting using the lost-wax technique, Burmese bells showing great craftsmanship and are all unique. Based on the marks and stamps on the bronze we can assume that they also had a religious and protective function.

Bronze mixture with low silver content, original patina, hanging on a tight braided leather collar.
