Author:
Miquel Torner de Semir (Sabadell, 1944) is a Spanish visual artist linked to the renewal of the language of contemporary figuration. His work is characterized by a strong expressive charge, the use of intense color, and experimentation with materials and mixed techniques. In many of his compositions he combines painting with collage elements, generating surfaces rich in texture and visual depth. His production often explores the human figure from an emotional and symbolic perspective, with influences from Expressionism and European contemporary art.
The work presents an intimate and expressive figurative scene featuring three female figures. In the foreground appears a woman with a frontal face, large eyes, and a serene expression, whose nude torso is rendered with loose, nuanced brushstrokes. Beside her, another female figure is shown in profile, with a gaze directed toward the first, establishing a silent dialogue between them. In the background, a third naked figure is hinted at, treated with softer chromatic tones, adding depth and dynamism to the composition.
The artist uses an intense and contrasted palette, dominated by violets, blues, oranges, and reds, which creates a vibrant atmosphere. The background is built with abstract color stains that reinforce the expressive character of the work. Also notable is the incorporation of collage elements — especially in the lower right area — where lace-like patterns and decorative fragments integrate into the painted surface, adding texture and an interesting contrast between the pictorial and the material.
The black line that delineates the figures recalls resources of modern Expressionism and emphasizes the forms, while the gestural brushwork adds spontaneity and dynamism to the scene.
