Teejo presents Miss Prue – Rock’n’Rebel, a limited edition digital print on prestige canvas (03/10), 60 × 80 cm, signed by hand, dating from 2020 or later, produced in France and sold direct by the artist in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
This contemporary work by Teejo reinterprets the portrait of Frances Abington as Miss Prue, painted in 1771 by Joshua Reynolds. Originally, this painting depicted the beloved actress Frances Abington in the role of Miss Prue, a naïve and comic heroine of William Congreve’s Love for Love (1695). Considered at one time to be an exhibition portrait, it would in fact be a private commission imbued with a soft provocation, where the actress poses in an attitude that is both intimate and troubling for the era.
In this bold reinterpretation, Teejo injects a dose of modernity and rebellion. Miss Prue becomes a rock icon: leather jacket, Pink Floyd T‑shirt, visible tattoos, bold red lipstick, and a retro hairstyle twisted by a bandana. Even her little dog, a faithful companion, sports a pop style with violet glasses. This humorous and anachronistic subversion upends classical codes to bring the pictorial heritage closer to today’s public.
Between homage and irreverence, Teejo transforms artistic heritage into a mirror of our era, with a touch of derision and a decidedly intergenerational aesthetic.
